SurgeryOur hospitals are equipped to perform most surgical procedures - from spays and neuters to more complex surgeries. Prior to any surgery, we recommend a comprehensive physical examination to screen your pet for any conditions that may warrant special precautions during surgery. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork may also be performed to detect hidden problems that could cause serious complications when your pet is under anesthetic. Other screening tests such as ECG, x-rays and blood pressure are available if the situation warrants. Throughout surgery, we closely monitor our patient's vital statistics including heart rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation. During higher risk or prolonged surgeries, we also administer fluids intravenously throughout surgery to maintain blood pressure, blood volume and ensure tissues are properly supported. While under an anesthetic, it is not uncommon for an animal to lose body heat. To help prevent this, warming blankets are used both during and after a surgery to maintain the proper body temperature. We also have established relationships to host surgical services provided by traveling surgical teams (Veterinary Surgical Associates-VSA) and a very experienced and knowledgeable orthopedic surgeon (Dr. McClain) to offer further options and care for our clients.
